Kirkbourne Gundogs Scurries...
are designed to enhance your dog in its training program.
They are also a great way to start you off in the trialing world.
No game is shot but if the game is in season, cold game may be used.
We at Kirkbourne Gundogs use within our scurries a range of aids to simulate the real shoot day, these include cold game, bolting rabbits, remote control dummy launchers, blinds, jumps and water.
The scurries not only evaluate the ability and quality of the dog but also the style of the handler. Where ever possible free handling and training advice is given if required whilst the scurry is being run. The Scurries are a timed event to ensure the dog and handler are able to work under pressure.
What do you need for a Scurry ?
Nothing much other than yourself and your dog etc.
For hygiene reasons it is every handlers responsibility to clean up after their dog and remove any faeces. Bitches in season or due to come into season should be left at home to avoid distressing other dogs.
What to expect at a test.
Normally there are lots of spectators watching . Some dogs don’t like this so it is a good idea to get your dog accustomed to crowds.
You will be asked to enter your name at the signing in area and here you will leave your name address phone number and dogs name. You could be allocated a number and a piece of paper. This is your scoring card and must be handed to the judge. The judge official will explain each test to you prior to stating. He will also explain that if your dog is not in control he will ask you to call in your dog and move on to the next section of the scurry.
If at any time you are thought to be wrongly treating your dog or using incorrect correction methods the judge official will ask you to put your dog on the lead and asked to leave the event.
When the Scurry is over...
relax and enjoy watching the other handlers compete.
The judge official is happy to offer advice and constructive feedback on your individual performance upon completion of the scurry.
Ask at the signing in area for any information on the Scurry and other events.
There are many prizes to be won at these events.
